Swedish Gambling Authority

The Swedish Gambling Authority or Spelinspektionen is the authority given the task of ensuring the legality, reliability and safety of the Swedish Gaming, Lotteries and online gambling market. They issue permits for lotteries, and their role is to provide the control and supervision of gambling and lottery activities in Sweden.

The Ministry of Finance controls the Swedish Gambling Authority. They are appointed by the Government, and the Director-General is a member, and he manages the activities.

In Sweden, online gambling was under state monopoly up to 2018. What that meant is that only State-owned casinos could operate in the country legally. Although foreign sites accepted Swedish players, they were not able to apply for a Swedish gaming license.
