Swedish Gambling Authority
The Swedish Gambling Authority or Spelinspektionen is the authority given the task of ensuring the legality, reliability and safety of the Swedish Gaming, Lotteries and online gambling market. They issue permits for lotteries, and their role is to provide the control and supervision of gambling and lottery activities in Sweden.
The Ministry of Finance controls the Swedish Gambling Authority. They are appointed by the Government, and the Director-General is a member, and he manages the activities.
Online Casinos licensed by Spelinspektionen
In Sweden, online gambling was under state monopoly up to 2018. What that meant is that only State-owned casinos could operate in the country legally. Although foreign sites accepted Swedish players, they were not able to apply for a Swedish gaming license.
Sweden amended the law which came into effect in 2018. All interested operators, foreign and domestic alike, could now apply for domestic licenses from the Swedish Gambling Authority. The decision had a two-fold goal. Firstly to eliminate unlicensed operators from Sweden and secondly, to offer their players better protection by monitoring the conduct of legally licensed online casinos.
Online casinos operating in Sweden have to adhere to strict laws. Furthermore, everyone has the right to claim the Welcome Bonus. Even if a player has claimed the bonus before the new change in the regulations. On the flip side, Swedish online casinos cannot offer other bonuses and free spins after the welcome bonus. Therefore Swedish players don’t get to enjoy all the other ongoing promotions and perks. Some online casinos that are available for Swedish players are:
- 888 Casino
- BetWay Casino
- Fun Casino
- Video Slots Casino
- Jackpot City Casino
- Rizk Casino
- Ruby Fortune Casino
The Swedish Gambling Authority ensures they do a thorough check on their online casinos and specific stringent requirements met before operating in Sweden. Once accepted, their conduct must adhere to strict laws and regulations. Moreover, to avoid fines and keep their gambling licenses.
